Australian Prime Minister was fined thousands of dollars for not wearing a life jacket

2018-11-26
Turnbull was driving his own inflatable boat near the Sydney Harbour from the pier to the beach on the other side and was found not wearing a life jacket. The NSW Roads and Maritime Bureau conducted an investigation into the matter and announced on the 29th that it imposed a fine of AUD 250 on the Prime Minister.

After the incident, Turnbull also published a "review" on social media on the 28th. He said: "Water safety is particularly important at this time of the year. We need to pay special attention to the regulations on life jackets. Yesterday (27th) I drove an inflatable boat from the pier to the beach - only 20 meters away. But I didn't wear a life jacket. Today (28th), the NSW Maritime Bureau called me because I was alone, but I didn't wear life jackets according to the regulations. The rules sometimes look mechanical, but this is to guarantee us. The safety, we should all abide by. This made me learn a lesson: no matter how close I am from the shore, I will wear a life jacket, just like when I am driving a rowing boat."
