The authorities said that on the evening of the 1st local time, a cruise ship carrying 10 people collided with another cruise ship carrying 6 people. Both boats sank into the water after being hit, and some drowning tourists were rescued by passing boats.

San Bernardino County Fire Zone spokesperson Eric Sherwin said one person was in critical condition and was taken to the University Medical Center in Las Vegas for emergency treatment. Six other people with relatively minor injuries were sent to a local hospital for treatment. The remaining few were slightly injured and only one was asked to go to the hospital.

Shewin said that the deepest part of the river is 30 feet (9 meters). Rescuers had to resume search and rescue work for missing persons on the morning of the 2nd, because it was too dangerous to sneak into the current after dark.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation. According to Anita Mortson, a spokesperson for the Mohave County Sheriff's Office, no life jackets were worn by tourists on board when the collision occurred.

Moabi Regional Park is located approximately 290 miles east of Los Angeles. At the junction of California and Arizona, it is a popular water feature.
